Uttar Pradesh School Holiday

Schools will remain closed in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh on January 15, 2026, due to Makar Sankranti. Many schools in the state, public and private, will remain closed due to weather warnings and the increasing cold in the northern region. Orders have been issued to keep schools closed due to dense fog and biting cold.

Haryana School Holiday

Schools will remain closed in many places in Haryana. Schools are likely to reopen from January 16th. Makar Sankranti is also being celebrated in the state on January 15th. Therefore, there will be a school holiday.

Chandigarh School Holiday

In Chandigarh, due to the increasing cold, winter holidays have been extended till January 17th. According to media reports, the long winter holidays will continue until January 17th, and January 18th will be a Sunday; therefore, schools will reopen on January 19th.

Makar Sankranti is celebrated across the country under different names: Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Lohri in Punjab, Uttarayan in Gujarat, and Magh Bihu in Assam. In North India, Lohri and the winter break together result in extended holidays.
