Netherlands announced strong squad for T20 World Cup 2026
Despite missing the Bangladesh tour, van der Merwe, Delday, Lewis, and Cachet have returned. It was on that tour that the Netherlands qualified for the T20 World Cup 2026. Veteran all-rounder Colin Ackermann has also returned to the squad, having last played a T20I in November 2024. Timm van der Gugten has also made a comeback after a long absence. Logan van Beek, who last played for the Netherlands during the last T20 World Cup in June 2024, is also set to return.
This indicates that experienced players have been given preference for the tournament, while younger players have been overlooked. The Netherlands will face Pakistan in their first match in Sri Lanka. The team’s first match is scheduled to be played on the opening day of the tournament on February 7 in Colombo.
Teja Nidamanuru, Tim Pringle and Vikramjit Singh, who played in the Bangladesh series, will not be able to play this time, along with Cedric de Lange, Sikandar Zulfiqar, Sebastian Braat, Daniel Dorum, Shariz Ahmed and Ryan Klein. The Netherlands team is in Group A, which also includes India and Pakistan.
Netherlands will face Pakistan, Namibia, the United States and defending champions Team India in the league phase. This is the seventh T20 World Cup for the Netherlands men’s team. The team has been playing in the T20 World Cup since 2009.
