Former South African batting great Herschelle Gibbs has strongly criticized Dewald Brevis and the coaching staff working with him. On Monday, in a SA20 League match, Sunrisers Eastern Cape had set a challenging target of 189 runs for Pretoria Capitals.
While chasing the target, Pretoria’s team seemed to be under pressure from the very beginning. Coming to bat in this difficult situation, Brevis was supposed to give hope, but he was out after facing only five balls and scoring 12 runs. He was caught out while trying to play a long shot on the ball of Lewis Gregory.

Brevis is struggling with poor form despite having massive talent
Known as “Baby AB” in South African cricket and seen as the next big star, Brevis is currently struggling with poor form. His failure has angered Gibbs, who has vented his anger on the social media platform X.
“I’d like to know what Brevis is being taught by his coaches. Despite playing so many T20 matches, there’s no trace of game management in his game,” Gibbs wrote. “More responsibility is expected of him, but I don’t think he wants to take it on himself. Batting is all about habits, and his habits aren’t a good sign for him at the moment.”

Brewis is the most expensive player in the history of the SA20 auction, having been bought by the Pretoria Capitals for 16.5 million rand (approximately 16.5 million rand). He was a key cog in MI Cape Town’s title-winning middle order last season. However, he has had a disappointing start to this season, and criticism from a veteran like Gibbs has only added to the pressure on him.
