Before the end of the year, cricket world got a shocking news on December 8. Former captain and explosive batter decided to hang up his boots. Another news of retirement in the cricket world. But who has announced retirement and will he continue play in international cricket? Let’s know in detail.
Australian opener Mitchell Marsh announced his retirement
Australian cricket team is currently playing the Ashes Test series at home against England. Amidst this series, a star Australian player has made a surprising decision. Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has announced his retirement from state-level red-ball cricket. Consequently, he will no longer be seen playing for Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield tournament. This decision creates uncertainty about Marsh’s Test cricket future, especially considering the Ashes series, in which he was expected to be selected.
Marsh, who underperformed in recent matches played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), informed his teammates of his decision. Since 2019, he has played only nine matches at the state level, due to a busy international schedule. Marsh, who made his debut for Western Australia in 2009, said he now wants to move away from red-ball cricket, but has not completely closed the door on playing Test matches for the national team.

According to reports, Marsh made it clear that he is willing to participate in the Ashes series if the selectors call him, even though it would be unusual due to his time away from Shield matches. However, he admitted that playing another Test match in the future seems unlikely. Previously, Australia’s chief selector, George Bailey, said in November that Marsh’s performance could bring new energy to the Ashes.
He stressed that this option is not being considered at the start of the series, but changes are possible later depending on the situation.
