2026 Holiday Calendar: The year 2025 is coming to an end, and the new year 2026 is soon to begin. As always, employees are eagerly awaiting the number of holidays they will receive in the coming year. The General Administration Department has released the holiday calendar for 2026. This year, government employees will receive a total of 31 public holidays and 19 holidays. This means a total of 50 holidays have been set for the entire year.
Of these holidays, each employee will be able to take only two holidays of their choice. That is, they will have to choose two from these 19. According to the department, there will be a total of 12 weeks in 2026 in which employees will receive a three-day long weekend. This means that government offices will be open for four days 12 times.

9 holidays reduced due to Saturday-Sunday holidays
According to the calendar, 9 holidays have been reduced in 2026 due to several major festivals falling on Saturdays or Sundays. This is disappointing for employees who were expecting special holidays for these festivals.
Holi in March, Diwali in November
In 2026, Holi will be celebrated on March 2 and 3. Holika Dahan will be held on March 2, while Dhulandi will be a holiday on March 3. Similarly, Diwali will be celebrated on November 8, and Govardhan Puja on November 9.
In addition, there will be holidays for Ramdev Jayanti and Teja Dashami on September 21, Durgashtami on October 19. Religious festivals such as Mahashivratri on February 15 and Devnarayan Jayanti on January 25 will also be celebrated.

Three consecutive holidays
The most significant feature of the 2026 calendar is that employees will have 12 consecutive weeks with three consecutive days off. There are 7 weeks in which Friday will be a public holiday, followed by regular holidays on Saturday and Sunday.
No holiday on these festivals if they fall on a Sunday
Several festivals will fall on Sunday this year. These include Devnarayan Jayanti on January 25, Mahashivratri on February 15, Parashuram Jayanti on April 19, Tribal Day on August 9, Ghat Sthapana on October 11, and Diwali on November 8. Furthermore, Eid-ul-Fitr on March 21, Jyotiba Phule Jayanti on April 11, and Independence Day on August 15, will fall on Saturdays.
