What is the CTET exam?

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is the most important exam for determining eligibility for teaching positions across the country.

This exam is mandatory for becoming a teacher in the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), Central Tibetan Schools (CTSA), and other central government-affiliated schools.

The CTET consists of two papers:

  • Paper I: Teaching Eligibility for Classes 1 to 5
  • Paper II: Teaching Eligibility for Classes 6 to 8
  • Both papers contain 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), and there is no negative marking.

CTET 2026 Exam Time Schedule

  • Paper-II (Classes 6-8): 9:30 am to 12:00 pm
  • Paper-I (Classes 1-5): 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
  • Both exams will be conducted in offline mode (OMR-based).

When will registration begin?

CBSE opens the application process approximately two to three months before the exam every year. Since the CTET February 2026 exam is scheduled for February 8, 2026, the online application window is expected to be activated on October 31 or the first week of November 2025. Candidates are advised to fill out the form before the application closes to avoid any technical issues.

Why wasn’t the CTET held in July 2025?

Typically, the CTET is held twice a year—in the July and December sessions. However, the July 2025 session was cancelled. CBSE has not officially stated the reason for this, but it is believed that this move has been taken to better align the teacher recruitment calendar and academic sessions. The February 2026 exam will now replace the December 2025 session. This will provide candidates with a continuous opportunity to obtain eligibility, eliminating any session gaps.
