Yamaha WR155R Testing

Let me tell you that pictures of Yamaha WR155R seen in Bengaluru are going viral on social media. But considering it shows that it is not an official test mule. It did not see the mandatory front number plate and sound guard in India, which are usually present in every test bike. Also, the person riding the bike was neither wearing helmet nor some kind of riding gear.

It is clear that this bike is not a company’s testing unit, but a privately imported unit. This means that a bike lover has ordered it from abroad, not Yamaha India testing it for launch.

Which countries sold it

This dual-sport motorcycle is currently available for sale in Nepal, Indonesia, and some other Asian countries. In these markets it is designed specifically for off-road and adventure lovers. It has a good popularity there, but at the moment the company has not announced any official launch plan for the Indian market.

Engine

Talking about the engine, the Yamaha WR155R gets the same powerful engine as the R15 and MT-15. It is a 155cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. This engine generates 16.7hp of power at 10,000rpm and 14.3Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.

This powerful motor delivers excellent performance in both long rides and off-road conditions. But the real fun lies in its dual-sport setup – which features a 21-inch front wheel, 18-inch rear wheel, and long-travel suspension. Its 245mm ground clearance makes it a true off-road beast.

Competition

If the Yamaha WR155R were to launch in India, it would have faced direct competition from only one Japanese rival – the Kawasaki KLX230. Following the recent GST revision and localization price cuts, the KLX230 is now priced at ₹1.84 lakh. While the WR155R could have been priced slightly higher, its features and refined engine performance could have made it a strong contender in the market.
