The implementation of GST 2.0 has brought significant changes to the Indian motorcycle market. Bikes up to 350 cc are now taxed at 18%, down from 28% previously, while bikes over 350 cc are taxed at 40%. This change has directly impacted the prices of motorcycles, especially mid-segment motorcycles. Let’s compare the prices and features of two popular motorcycles: the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and the Triumph Speed T4.
Royal Enfield Hunter 350
The Royal Enfield Hunter 350, slated for launch in 2025, previously had a starting price of ₹1.50 lakh to ₹1.82 lakh. Following the implementation of the new GST 2.0 regulations, the company passed on the entire tax benefit directly to customers. The Hunter 350 is now priced between ₹1.38 lakh and ₹1.67 lakh, representing savings of between ₹12,000 and ₹15,000.

The Hunter 350 has recently been updated. It features a new LED headlamp, rear suspension updates, and a slipper clutch for easier downshifting. The bike is powered by the same familiar 349cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces 20.4 hp and 27 Nm of torque. It’s paired with a 5-speed gearbox.
Triumph Speed T4
On the other hand, the Triumph Speed T4 falls above the 350cc category. Normally, its price would have been higher due to the 40% GST, but Bajaj Auto and Triumph reduced the tax burden and reduced the bike’s price. The base variant is now available for ₹1.93 lakh, down from the previous price of ₹1.99 lakh to ₹2.07 lakh.

The Speed T4 is powered by a 399 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 31 horsepower and 36 Nm of torque. Although it’s based on the Speed 400’s engine, it’s been slightly tuned. The bike features affordable hardware, conventional telescopic forks, bias-ply tires, and lacks traction control.
Price and Value Comparison
Even after GST 2.0, the Triumph Speed T4 is more expensive than the Hunter 350, but it offers better performance.
| Bike | Base Variant Price | Top Variant Price | Engine | Power | Torque | Tax Bracket |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Royal Enfield Hunter 350 | ₹1.38 Lakh | ₹1.67 Lakh | 349cc, Air-Cooled | 20.4hp | 27Nm | 18% GST |
| Triumph Speed T4 | ₹1.93 Lakh | ₹2.07 Lakh | 399cc, Liquid-Cooled | 31hp | 36Nm | 40% GST |
The base variant of the Hunter 350 is ₹55,000 cheaper than the Speed T4, while the top variant is available for approximately ₹26,000 less. However, the base variant of the Hunter 350 lacks alloy wheels and tubeless tires, so its top variants offer better value for money. The Speed T4 justifies its premium price with its powerful liquid-cooled engine and sporty riding experience. It is ideal for riders looking to upgrade from the 350cc class.
