UPI Features – You must be using UPI payments! Remembering the PIN can be difficult for many people, and they sometimes forget it. Now, this hassle has been eliminated. NPCI, the National Payments Corporation of India, has made UPI payments incredibly easy. Now, making UPI payments is as easy as unlocking your mobile phone.
Face and fingerprint payments
You can now make UPI payments without entering a PIN, just using your fingerprint or face recognition. When making payments, you’ll only need to authenticate using your fingerprint or face recognition. This new feature is effective October 8, 2025. Initially, this feature is available to select banks and wallet apps, but will eventually expand to allow every user to benefit.
If this feature has been launched for your respective bank or wallet, you can activate it in your app. We’ll explain the process here in brief, so you can understand how to make payments using your face and fingerprint.
How to activate face or fingerprint payments?
1. First, you’ll need to update your app. Install the latest version of your UPI app (such as BHIM, PhonePe, Google Pay, or Paytm).
2. Next, check your device support. Make sure your smartphone has a fingerprint scanner or face recognition feature and that it’s activated.
3. Your bank account must be linked to Aadhaar, as biometric verification will be based on that data.
Now go to the app settings. Open the UPI app → Settings → go to the Security or Authentication section → turn on the Biometric Payment Authentication option.
4. Now you need to complete the verification process. The app will ask you for a one-time fingerprint or face verification. After successful verification, the feature will be activated.

When making a payment, select “Authenticate via Biometric.” Scan your face or use your fingerprint. The transaction will be completed instantly, with no need to enter a PIN. Isn’t this a wonderful convenience? So get started, take advantage of this new feature in the digital payment era.
