What’s Special

This new SUV from Toyota will be the smallest and most affordable model in the brand’s lifestyle SUV category. It has been specifically designed for the Asian market, allowing more customers to experience premium off-roading. Interestingly, Toyota will introduce a different version for the European market, featuring an electric powertrain. For Asia, the FJ Cruiser will be offered with hybrid and diesel engine options.

IMV-0 Platform

The new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is being built on the IMV-0 platform, which also underpins the Hilux Champ. It is believed that this SUV will be introduced in Japan in February 2026, with Thailand likely to be its first launch market.

Leaked patent images have already provided a glimpse of its design. The SUV will have a boxy and rugged look, featuring strong front fenders, thick C-pillars, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The SUV will be approximately 4.4 meters long and have a wheelbase of 2,580mm. According to reports, this SUV will have a water wading capacity of up to 800mm, making it easy to maneuver on flooded roads.

Cabin

Toyota has attempted to provide the perfect combination of off-roading and comfort in this model. The FJ Cruiser’s cabin will be inspired by the Hilux Champ, but will feature a more premium and modern touch. This will include improved fit and finish, lower NVH levels, and advanced features. Notably, the SUV will also feature a 360-degree camera, which will also provide a view of the vehicle’s underside – a feature that will be extremely useful during off-roading.

Off-Road Performance

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will be offered with a full-time 4WD system that distributes torque between the front and rear wheels in a 40:60 ratio. Features like a center differential and a Torsion LSD rear axle will enable the SUV to navigate any difficult terrain without stopping. The SUV will feature multiple drive modes, including ECO, Normal, and Sport, allowing drivers to adjust performance as needed.

Powertrain and Engine

The new Toyota FJ Cruiser is expected to be launched in three powertrain options. It will be powered by a 2.7-liter, 4-cylinder 2TR-FE petrol engine that produces 161 bhp and 246 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The company may also offer a 2.0-liter petrol-hybrid engine, already seen in the Innova Hycross. The diesel variant could use a 2.0-liter turbodiesel unit, which will offer both reliable performance and fuel efficiency.
