If your ration card is lost or torn or old, do not worry. You can get a duplicate ration card. You can do this online or offline. Each state has its own website for ration cards. The process can be a little different in each state. If your ration card is lost, go to the nearest police station and file an FIR. Keep a copy of the FIR.
How to Get a Duplicate Ration Card
Offline Method:
- Go to the DFSC (District Food and Supplies Controller) office in your area.
- Take a depot holder report, two passport-size photos of each family member, and the penalty fee. Sometimes, a family group photo is also needed.
- Get a duplicate ration card form (D-Y form).
- Fill the form and attach the depot holder report, two receipts for the penalty fee, and the photos of all family members.
- Submit all documents to the office. After verification, you will be notified. Then go to the office to collect your new/duplicate ration card.
Online Method:
- Each state has its own website for ration cards. Visit your state’s PDS website or Food Department website.
- Find the option to register for a new ration card. Click it.
- Fill in all details and submit the application.
- You will get a reference number to check your application status.
- After verification, you will be notified on the portal. Then you can visit the website and print your ration card.

Note:
The ration card issued by the state government allows families to get grains under the PDS. Different types of ration cards are issued based on family income. Subsidized rations are given according to the type of card. Not everyone needs a ration card.
