Free LPG Cylinders: The Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has given a major gift to poor families this Diwali (Diwali 2025). Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, approximately 18.5 million women beneficiaries in the state will receive free LPG cylinder refills.
The UP government made
the decision at a cabinet meeting on Friday, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally approved it. According to the government, the scheme aims to alleviate the culinary worries of poor and needy families during the festive season, allowing them to celebrate Diwali with joy.
Under this scheme, eligible women will receive a free cylinder during Diwali, which is between October and December 2025. Additionally, another free refill will be provided during Holi, which is between January and March 2026. A total of ₹1,385.34 crore will be spent on the scheme throughout the financial year to ensure that every eligible household benefits from it.
Which women will benefit from this scheme?
It’s important to note that this scheme will only benefit women who have registered for the Ujjwala Yojana and are listed among BPL families. It’s also important to note that to receive a free cylinder, all required documents must be updated and Aadhaar authentication (KYC) must be complete. The government has set December 31, 2025, as the deadline for Aadhaar authentication for beneficiaries. If this process isn’t completed by the deadline, you may miss out on the free cylinder.
The state government claims that this decision will provide significant relief to millions of poor families on the auspicious occasion of Diwali and ensure women’s self-reliance. The Ujjwala Yojana will facilitate cooking and drinking water for families in the state, while also improving their health and social status through clean fuel.
