Even today, many students in India face money problems to continue their education. To help them, the government has started the “Pradhan Mantri Vidyalakshmi Yojana.” This scheme, launched by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education, aims to make sure no talented student misses education due to lack of funds. Under this scheme, students can get loans up to ₹10 lakh without any guarantee or collateral.

Many banks will offer the Vidyalakshmi Scheme. The government has included 13 major banks, giving a total of 126 loan options. These include State Bank of India (SBI), Canara Bank, IDBI Bank, and Bank of India. Interest rates may vary.

The main benefit is that students can compare loan options from different banks on one online portal. This saves time and makes the process simple, so students do not need to visit banks again and again.

Scheme Highlights and Benefits

  1. Education loans without guarantee or collateral.
  2. The application is fully online, simple, and clear.
  3. Students from families with income up to ₹8 lakh get 3% interest subsidy on loans.
  4. No installment payment is needed until studies are finished and a job is secured.
  5. Credit guarantee up to 75% on loans up to ₹7.5 lakh.
  6. Extra 1% interest subsidy if the student repays interest during studies.
  7. Easy repayment up to 15 years after course and moratorium period.
  8. Interest subsidy is credited directly to the CBDC Wallet and then to the loan account.

Eligibility:

  • Must be an Indian citizen.
  • Admission must be based on merit, not quota.
  • Must be enrolled in one of India’s 902 quality higher education institutions.
  • Annual family income must be up to ₹8 lakh for the 3% subsidy.
  • Must not receive any other government scholarship or subsidy.
  • Benefits stop if the student drops out or shows indiscipline.

Eligible Institutions:

  • Institutions ranked in top 100 in NIRF.
  • Institutions ranked in top 200 in NIRF by states/UTs.
  • All central government higher education institutions.
  • Foreign universities and their Indian campuses are not included.
