Children aged 5 to 7 can update their Aadhaar free of cost. UIDAI has made it mandatory to update biometrics (MBU) for children in this age group whose biometrics are not updated.

The child’s details can be updated at any Aadhaar Seva Kendra. If it is not done, their Aadhaar may be deactivated. Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (DDG) of UIDAI, shared this information in the Prashna Pahar program at Dainik Jagran office on Wednesday. He listened to readers’ problems about Aadhaar and gave solutions.

Aadhaar for Children

DDG Singh said that children under 5 can get Aadhaar by giving their photo, name, date of birth, gender, address, and supporting documents. Fingerprints and iris scans are not taken for children under 5 because they are too young.

When the child turns 5, fingerprints, iris scans, and photo must be updated in Aadhaar. The first mandatory biometric update between ages 5 and 7 is free. After 7 years, a fee of ₹100 will apply.
