Zomato- Big news for Zomato lovers. Ahead of festive season, food delivery aggregator company Zomato has given a big shock to its customers. Zomato has increased its platform fee by a huge 20 percent on Tuesday. The company under Eternal Ltd has increased the platform fee from the earlier Rs 10 to Rs 12 per order.

This increase in fees for customers has been done in all the cities where Zomato delivers food. This increase by Zomato has been done after rival company Swiggy last month increased the platform fee to Rs 14 in select locations in view of the increasing demand. Zomato had also increased the platform fee before the festive season last year. Last year, the company had increased the fee from Rs 6 to Rs 10 per order. This increase was done just 3 months after the Gurugram-based company increased its platform fee from Rs 5 per order to Rs 6.

In the quarter ended June 2025, Zomato’s parent company Eternal Limited has reported a 36% sequential decline in net profit. Whereas earlier the company’s net profit stood at Rs 25 crore compared to Rs 39 crore in the March quarter.

Swiggy has increased its fees by 600% in 2 years

Before Zomato, another food delivery giant Swiggy had increased its platform fee for food delivery orders by Rs 2 last month. The company had cited the increase in orders from customers during the festive season. The company had increased its fee from Rs 12 to Rs 14 to take advantage of the festive demand.

Food delivery companies are constantly increasing their fees. Talking about Swiggy, its fee was Rs 2 in April 2023, which was increased to Rs 6 in July 2024, then it became Rs 10 in October 2024. Now its fee has become Rs 14. In this way, in the last 2 years, Swiggy has increased its fees by an astonishing 600 percent. Swiggy is claimed to process over 20 lakh orders daily, and at the current platform fee level, this generates additional revenue of crores of rupees daily.
