Crores of people in India have ration cards, which help them to avail free ration and many other government facilities. Every month, the government fixes a certain ratio for every family, which depends on the number of family members. But, now if you do not do an extremely important work on your ration card, then you may stop getting free ration, and your ration card will also be deactivated. Come, let’s know what you have to do to avoid this.

Big warning for ration card holders

Under the National Food Security Act, the government provides a free ration facility to poor people. It is necessary to have a ration card to avail this facility. Now the government has clearly said that if people do not do one thing, they will stop getting rations.

This work is to get e-KYC done on the ration card. It is mandatory for all people above the age of five to get e-KYC done. If this work is not done, your ration card will be closed, and you will not be able to get the facility of free ration. For this, the deadline of June 30 was earlier fixed, which was later extended to August 31. People have been given three months for e-KYC.

How to do e-KYC

You can do e-KYC of your ration card online from home. For this, you have to follow these steps:

  1. Visit the state’s PDS portal: First of all, go to the portal of your state’s Public Distribution System (PDS).
  2. On the homepage, you will see ‘Ration Card Services’, ‘e-Services’, and other options. Click on ‘e-KYC’ among them.
  3. Enter your ration card number and verify it with Aadhaar. For this, your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar.
  4. An OTP will come to your mobile number. Enter it.
  5. After entering the OTP, your ration card will be updated, and the process of e-KYC will be completed.
  6. If you want, you can also get this work done by going to your nearest ration dealer.

Why is e-KYC important

Now this question must be coming to your mind, why is e-KYC so important that without it the ration card will be closed. The government is doing this because many people take advantage of government schemes. When e-KYC is done, the number of fake beneficiaries decreases, and only eligible people get the benefit of the scheme. This is a big step towards increasing transparency and eliminating corruption. If you want to continue the facility of free ration for your family, then get this work done before 31 August.
