FASTag Pass– Big news for FASTag users. The government had implemented FASTag so that people do not face unnecessary delay in paying toll tax at toll plazas while passing through national and state highways. Under this, your vehicle’s tax was deducted from the FASTag in a few seconds at the toll gate itself. People were also troubled by frequent recharge and deduction of toll tax.

To get rid of these hassles, the government has started FASTag’s annual pass. From August 15, the FASTag annual pass rule has been implemented across the country. Under this, by recharging only Rs 3000, you will be able to cross the toll plaza without stopping for the whole year or 200 trips (whichever is earlier).

Many people are still confused about the annual pass of Fastag. There is also confusion about whether if 200 trips are not completed in a year, will the remaining money be adjusted next year? Let us know the answers to all your questions like this:-

What is Fastag and where is it used?

Fastag is an electronic sticker. It has a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip. It is pasted on the windscreen of the vehicle. Fastag is linked to the vehicle owner’s bank account. If you want, you can also keep money in the Fastag wallet. With the help of Fastag, toll tax is paid without stopping at the toll plaza.

How will you calculate the trip?

At a point-based fee plaza, every toll crossing will count as one trip. If you book a round trip, it will count as two trips. At a closed tolling fee plaza, entry and exit will be considered as one trip.

What if the 200 trips end before the year?

If you have made a Fastag annual pass on 15 August 2025, then it will be valid till 15 August 2026. In this you will get a limit of 200 trips. If 200 trips are completed in 3 or 6 months, then you can get a new pass again on the same vehicle number. For this you will have to spend Rs 3 thousand again. No discount or adjustment will be given.

If 200 trips are not completed in a year, will the money be carried forward?

Many people argue that if 200 trips are not completed in a year, then the remaining trips and money should be adjusted next year. But, the government has not made such a rule. This annual pass is valid only for 1 year. If your pass is expiring on 15 August 2026 and you have not completed 200 trips till then, then the remaining trips will be automatically cancelled. Next year you will have to get a new pass again.

Will this annual pass work at every toll plaza?

FASTag’s annual pass will currently work only on toll plazas of national highways across the country. That is, if you are going from Delhi to Mumbai or Chennai to Bengaluru… then this pass will be useful. It has not yet been added for state highways or local tolls. That means it is not even for Meerut Expressway and Yamuna Expressway.

Is the new toll pass for all types of vehicles?

At present, the annual pass will be valid for non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps and vans. It will not be valid for commercial vehicles like taxis, cabs, buses and trucks. Toll will be deducted for these vehicles under the existing system.

How much money will be saved with the annual pass?

The charge for one trip with Fastag Annual Pass will be only Rs 15. Whenever your vehicle passes through a Fastag toll plaza managed by NHAI or MoRTH, 1 trip will be deducted from the Fastag Annual Pass balance.

At present, one has to pay Rs 50 to Rs 100 for crossing the toll plaza on national highways.

If you cross the toll plaza 200 times, you will have to pay Rs 10,000 at the rate of Rs 50.

If the toll charge is Rs 100, then Rs 20,000 will have to be paid for crossing the toll plaza 200 times.

Whereas with Fastag Annual Pass, you can complete 200 trips for just Rs 3,000.

In this way, you can easily save from Rs 7000 to Rs 17,000 with this annual pass.

However, your savings depend on how frequently you travel and the distance you cover. You will not be able to transfer the Annual Pass.
