Do you also like long road trips or daily travel on the highway, Then there is great news for you. Now there is going to be a huge reduction of up to 50% in toll tax. This big decision of the government will give relief to all those people who pass through special bridges, flyovers, and tunnels built on the National Highway. Know how this new rule will reduce your travel expenses by half, and when you will start getting its benefits.
50% reduction in toll tax

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has implemented a new rule regarding toll tax. This rule will be applicable especially on those highways where structures like flyovers, bridges, tunnels, and elevated stretches are built. Earlier, 10 times more toll was charged for these special structures than the normal toll. But now the government has changed this rule so that the burden on the pockets of the passengers can be reduced.
New formula for calculating toll tax
Let us understand this with an example. Suppose a national highway has a 40-km stretch, and structures like bridges, flyovers, or tunnels are built on this entire stretch. Earlier, toll was calculated on it in two ways:
First method: The length of the structure was multiplied by 10. For example, 10 x 40 = 400 km.
Second method: The length of the entire stretch of the highway was multiplied by 5. For example, 5 x 40 = 200 km.
The toll tax was levied on the basis of the amount that was less in both these methods. But now under the new rule, toll tax will be calculated only on half the length of the highway, that is, the toll will be reduced by 50%.

Who will benefit the most
This decision of the government will provide the most relief to those passengers who travel on such national highways where structures like bridges, tunnels, or flyovers are built in more than 50% of the distance. For example, the toll on the Dwarka Expressway connecting Delhi to Gurugram was earlier ₹317, which can now be reduced to ₹153 after this new rule. The main objective of the government is to reduce the cost of travel and make people’s travel easier. This change will not only make travel cheaper, but will also save time spent at the toll plaza.
