Objective and benefits of the scheme

The aim of the Ayushman Bharat scheme is that no weak person in society should be deprived of treatment due to financial constraints. Under this, eligible families are given free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh every year. The special thing is that with this facility in Delhi, an additional top-up of Rs 5 lakh will also be available, that is, the family will get a cashless medical cover of up to Rs 10 lakh. This scheme includes treatment of more than 1300 diseases, which also covers the expenses before and after hospitalization.
Who will get the benefit first?
In Delhi, the benefit of this scheme will be given first to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) cardholders. Gradually, its scope will be increased to include other eligible families as well. Its direct benefit will be given to those people who are financially weak and are unable to get expensive treatment in private hospitals.
Eligibility and ineligible category
Eligibility for Ayushman Bharat Yojana has been decided on the basis of the Socio-Economic Caste Census of 2011. In rural areas, people living in kutcha houses, landless laborers, Scheduled Caste-Tribe families, Divyang, daily wage laborers, and destitute people are included. On the other hand, in urban areas, rickshaw pullers, sweepers, domestic workers, street vendors, cobblers, plumbers, painters, and other small workers have been considered eligible.
However, people who have a two-wheeler, a car, a concrete house, more than five acres of land, a government job, or a monthly income of more than Rs 10,000 will be deprived of the benefits of this scheme.
