Even today, many women in India use traditional fuels like wood, cow dung cakes, or coal for cooking. Cooking with these fuels can cause many health problems for women. To solve this problem, the central government is running a very good scheme called Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
Under this scheme, the government provides LPG gas cylinders for free to women. Only women can use the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. To apply, women must live below the poverty line and be 18 years or older. Here is how you can apply and get the benefit of a free gas cylinder under this scheme.
Description
In May 2016, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) started the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). This is a flagship scheme to provide clean cooking fuel like LPG to rural and poor households. These households were otherwise using traditional fuels like wood, coal, or cow dung cakes. Using these fuels was bad for the health of rural women and also harmful to the environment. The scheme was launched on 1st May 2016 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh.
