School Holiday:- Due to continuous heavy rains in Mumbai, people have found it challenging to live. The condition here is bad due to constant heavy rains. Roads have been submerged in many areas. The Meteorological Department had issued a red alert on Monday regarding heavy rains, after which a holiday was declared in all schools and colleges of the metropolis. Due to heavy rains on Monday, the roads in many areas were waterlogged. After heavy rains, the streets in many places were flooded. The Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert in various districts of the Konkan region of Maharashtra, including Mumbai.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, several states in India declared a holiday for schools and colleges, although the reasons for this are varied.

Schools have been ordered to be closed due to heavy rains in major urban centres like Mumbai and districts of Karnataka and Kerala, while in Manipur, this holiday is related to the cultural festival. Officials have taken precautionary measures to protect students from adverse weather and other risks.

In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced the closure of all schools and colleges on August 19 due to heavy rains and waterlogging. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast continuous rains till August 20.

States like Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and Telangana will remain closed on August 27, 2025, to observe Ganesh Chaturthi, the major festival marking the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha. Grand pujas, processions and community events are organised on this day. The decision on whether schools will remain closed on August 27 depends on state and local announcements, so families need to stay updated with official information. In Kerala, the Onam festival is being celebrated alongside Ganesh Chaturthi from August 26 to 28, resulting in additional school closures.
