Chinese electric vehicle company BYD is strengthening its hold in India. So far, four of its models – Atto 3, eMax 7, Sealion 7 and Seal have made their presence felt in the Indian market. But now BYD is going to woo Indian customers with a new and affordable electric SUV, named Atto 2. This model will be smaller and more affordable than Atto 3, which will give it a direct competition to rivals like Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Harrier EV.

BYD Atto 2
The BYD Atto 2 is already on sale in markets like China, Brazil and Europe, where it is being loved as a practical and affordable electric SUV. It is priced at SG$159,388 (approx. ₹98 lakh) in Singapore, but in India it could fall in the Rs 18-25 lakh range.

Design and build
If we talk about design, Atto 2 is very similar to its elder brother Atto 3. It has a charging port on its front fender, which supports 7kW AC and 65kW DC fast charging. Connected LED taillights, LED headlamps and a rear spoiler further enhance its stylish look.
Talking about size, Atto 2 is 4,310mm in length, 1,830mm in width and 1,675mm in height, while the wheelbase is 2,620mm. It is a compact SUV, which is perfect for cities.
Features and Technology
In the Indian version, Atto 2 can get many advanced features like: 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen (wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay), 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS (Driver Assist Technology), which makes this car even more unique and attractive.

Performance and Range
The Atto 2 uses a 45.1kWh blade battery technology, which is considered superior in safety and energy density. Its single motor setup produces 177PS of power and 290Nm of torque, which is close to the MG ZS EV. It has a top speed of 160km/h, and a WLTP range of 345km per charge. However, its claimed range in India can be up to 380km.

Price and Launch
BYD’s pricing in India has been attractive, and the Atto 2 could also be offered between ₹ 18-25 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete directly with the Hyundai Creta EV (Rs 18-24.4 lakh).
