The government has set a target to benefit Ujjwala beneficiaries

India is dependent on imports for about 60 percent of its LPG needs. To protect the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana from global price changes and ensure continuous and economical use of LPG, the government had asked in May 2022 to give a subsidy of Rs 200 on every cylinder of 14.2 kg, with a rule of filling 12 cylinders annually. This subsidy has also been implemented on a proportionate basis for 5 kg cylinders.
Ujjwala beneficiaries are using more LPG cylinders
The use of LPG cylinders is increasing significantly among the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The average per capita consumption (PCC), which was about 3 refills in 2019-20 and 3.68 refills in 2022-23, increased to about 4.47 refills during the financial year 2024-25, that is, now more people are using cylinders.
