MSP Hike- The central government has brought good news for the farmers of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The government has decided to purchase moong and urad from Madhya Pradesh and urad from Uttar Pradesh at the minimum support price (MSP) to ensure fair price to the farmers for their produce.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan held a meeting with the Agriculture Ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh and approved the procurement under the Price Support Scheme (PSS). He gave necessary guidelines to the concerned officials. Procurement under this scheme is done when the market price goes below the MSP.

Government is committed for the welfare of farmers

During the meeting, Chauhan said that the decision to purchase moong and urad will put a huge financial burden on the central government. However, the government is fully committed to the interests of farmers. He also said that direct purchase from farmers will reduce the influence of middlemen and the farmers will get real benefits.

The Agriculture Minister also directed to use the latest technology for registration of farmers and to increase the number of procurement centers if required. Also, advised to complete the entire process in a fair and transparent manner. Expressing concern over complaints of irregularities in storage, he asked the officials to take concrete steps. Many senior officials including Madhya Pradesh’s Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Aidal Singh Kansana, Uttar Pradesh Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi, Union Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi were present in the meeting.
