Ujjwala Scheme- Good news for common people of India. The central government has announced another big relief for the common people. The Center has given a big relief to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the continuation of subsidy of Rs 300 on 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY).

This information was given in an official statement. The benefit of this scheme will be available by refilling the domestic gas cylinder only 9 times till the financial year 2025-26. A total of Rs 12,000 crore is estimated to be spent on this scheme. India is dependent on imports for nearly 60 per cent of its LPG needs.

To protect Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries from global price changes and ensure continued and affordable use of LPG, the government started providing a subsidy of Rs 200 on each 14.2 kg cylinder in May 2022, covering up to 12 refills annually. This subsidy was also extended to 5 kg cylinders on a pro-rata basis.

LPG usage increased among Ujjwala beneficiaries

There has been a great improvement in the use of LPG among the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The average per capita consumption (PCC), which was about 3 refills in 2019-20 and 3.68 refills in 2022-23, increased to about 4.47 refills during FY 2024-25, meaning more people are using cylinders now.

Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana at a glance

Launched in May 2016, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana aims to provide LPG connections to women from low-income families across India without any deposit. As of July 1, 2025, about 10.33 crore Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana connections have been distributed across the country. Every Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiary gets a connection without any deposit amount, which includes cylinder, pressure regulator, safety hose, DGCC booklet and security deposit for installation charges.
