Engine and Performance
The Triumph Thruxton 400 comes with a 398cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, while the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is powered by a 648cc twin-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine. On paper, the GT 650 generates more power (47hp) and torque (52.3Nm), but the Thruxton 400 has a better power-to-weight ratio (229.5hp/ton) as it is 31kg lighter.

The GT 650’s engine is smooth and has a classic “thump” sound, reminiscent of old-school bikes. The Thruxton 400’s engine, on the other hand, is high-revving and feels modern. If you prefer a comfortable ride, the GT 650 is better, but if you want sportier performance, the Thruxton 400 is perfect for you.
Weight and Dimensions
The Thruxton 400 weighs just 183kg, while the GT 650 is a heavier bike at 214kg. This means that the Thruxton will be more easily handled in city traffic. The wheelbase of the Thruxton is also shorter (1376mm), which makes it more agile and comfortable.
The fuel tank capacity is almost the same in both (Thruxton – 13L, GT 650 – 12.5L), but the bigger engine of the GT 650 will consume more petrol, so the mileage will be better in the Thruxton. The ground clearance is slightly higher in the GT 650 (174mm), which can be beneficial for the bad roads of India.

Suspension
Thruxton 400 has USD forks and monoshock suspension, which gives it a more sporty handling. On the other hand, GT 650 has traditional telescopic forks and twin shock absorbers.
GT 650 has slightly larger discs (front – 320mm, rear – 240mm), but due to being lighter, Thruxton is not behind in braking performance. Talking about tires, Thruxton’s tires are wider (front – 110/70-R17, rear – 150/60-R17), which give better grip.
Features
Thruxton 400 you get: all-LED lighting, USB charging port, traction control, slip-and-assist clutch. On the other hand, the GT 650 has a basic split-pod analog console and halogen lights. If you want modern features, the Thruxton 400 wins.

Price
The Triumph Thruxton 400 is priced at ₹2.74 lakh (Delhi), ex-showroom, while the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 starts at ₹3.25 lakh (Chennai). The Thruxton is not only cheaper, but it is also lighter, more tech-laden and modern.
However, the GT 650 has a different take on the classics and its twin-cylinder engine. If you want the old-school biking experience and feel, the GT 650 is a better choice.
