Gratuity Update – Big news for government Employees. The government told the Rajya Sabha on Thursday that the service rendered by an employee in an autonomous body will also be counted for gratuity to central government employees. Autonomous bodies are government bodies or organisations that have some degree of autonomy in their functioning.

Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply that the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DOPPW) has notified the Central Civil Services (Payment of Gratuity under National Pension System) Rules, 2021 for Central Government employees. These rules do not automatically apply to the employees of autonomous bodies, but the service rendered by an employee in an autonomous body can also be added to his service time in case of grant of gratuity.

80 lakh public grievances resolved

The minister said that the payment of gratuity by the autonomous bodies, payment of interest or calculation of service period etc. depends on the special gratuity rules followed by the particular autonomous body. In response to another question, Jitendra Singh said that 80,36,042 public grievances have been resolved between the year 2022 and June 2025.

In response to another question, the Minister said that as per the data provided by various Ministries and Departments of the Government, about 4.8 lakh backlog vacancies have been filled in the Central Government since 2016. The Ministries/Departments of the Central Government have been advised from time to time to fill the vacancies in a time-bound manner.
