From new rules related to UPI transactions to the benefits of SBI credit cards and new options for Fastag, many important rules are changing. It is very important for you to understand these changes so that you can continue your financial activities without any hassle. Let us know in detail which rules are changing from August 2025 and how they will affect you.
These 5 big rules are changing from August 2025
The month of August in the year 2025 is witnessing many important changes in the financial landscape of India. These changes will affect every sector from digital transactions to travel and banking.
New guidelines for UPI transactions

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has implemented many new rules from August 1, 2025, to improve the functioning of the UPI system. These rules are aimed at making UPI transactions faster, safer, and more efficient. Now you will be able to check your bank balance only 50 times a day. However, your updated balance will be automatically displayed after every successful transaction. Autopayments like monthly bills or EMIs will now be processed only during non-peak hours (before 10 am and after 5 pm).
You will be able to check the status of any pending transaction only 3 times, and there will be a gap of 90 seconds between each check. The recipient’s name and transaction ID will be mandatorily shown before making the payment, which will reduce the chances of fraud and wrong transfer.
These people will not get free insurance on an SBI credit card
If you are a customer of an SBI credit card, then this news is important for you. From August 11, 2025, SBI Card is discontinuing the facility of free air accident insurance available on many of its co-branded credit cards. This change will affect customers who have cards of ELITE, PRIME, and some Platinum variants.
The free insurance cover of Rs 1 crore or Rs 50 lakh previously available on these cards will no longer be available. This is a big blow to customers who used to travel by air frequently and relied on this additional facility. Now they will have to opt for separate insurance for their travel.
New Fastag Annual Pass option

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced the Fastag Annual Pass for private vehicle drivers from August 15, 2025. This pass will be available at a price of ₹ 3,000, and its validity will be up to 1 year or 200 toll transactions (whichever is completed earlier). The biggest benefit of this pass will be to those who travel frequently on national highways, as it will make their toll payment process easier and cheaper.
KYC update for Punjab National Bank customers
Punjab National Bank (PNB) customers have to update their KYC (Know Your Customer) information in their bank accounts before 8 August 2025. This instruction is for all those customers whose KYC update was pending till 30 June 2025. If you do not get KYC updated on time, then transactions from your account may be stopped or your account may be temporarily blocked. You can get KYC done by visiting your nearest branch or through authorized digital channels of the bank.
