8th Pay Commission- New update is here for central government employees. The update that was awaited for a long time for the central employees has now come out. An update has come on the important point of the talks between the government and the employees regarding the 8th Central Pay Commission. The central government has received many suggestions from the employee association regarding the 8th Pay Commission. The government has given a statement in response to the question asked on this subject in Parliament. Now everyone’s eyes are on what decision the government takes on the suggestions given by the employees?

The National Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) has also put forward many demands of the employees to the government. These suggestions were given in February 2025. This information was given by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in response to a question asked in Parliament. Rajya Sabha member Bhubaneswar Kalita had asked the government whether any suggestions have been received from the employees.

In response to this, the minister said that the government has sought feedback on this from major stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel and state governments. Now let us know what are the 15 major suggestions given by the staff side for the 8th Pay Commission.

There has been a demand to include the industrial and non-industrial employees of the Central Government, All India Services, Defence and Paramilitary Forces, Gramin Dak Sevaks, Supreme Court and Audit Department and employees of autonomous institutions in the commission. The salary revision should be implemented from 1 January 2026. The new salary structure should also be considered applicable from 1 January 2026.

Lower level salaries should be merged

The minimum wage should be decided on the basis of ‘living wage’. That is, a salary which can respectfully fulfill the needs of a family. For example, level 1 and 2, 3 and 4 should be combined into one so that the pay matrix can be more clear. Every employee should get at least 3 promotions on time.

Interim relief should be given

Until the commission’s report is implemented, employees and pensioners should get interim relief. There has been a demand to add dearness allowance and relief to the existing salary and pension. The unresolved problems of the 7th Pay Commission should be resolved.

There should be a pension reform

There should be equality between old and new pension and commuted pension should be restored in 12 years. Demand to abolish NPS and implement old pension system (CCS Rules). Old advances should be restarted and new advances should be given as per the need.

improve health facilities

CGHS and fixed medical allowance should be improved. Cashless treatment facility should be provided. Railway employees should get risk allowance, who work 24×7 in difficult conditions. Defense civilians should get separate risk allowance and insurance, who work in dangerous environments like explosives or chemicals.

Currently, the government is brainstorming on these suggestions and it is expected that the process of 8th Pay Commission can be formally started soon. If these suggestions are accepted, then there can be a big relief and good news for central employees and pensioners.
