8th Pay Commission– The process of working of 8th Pay Commission has been expedited. The central government has started taking opinion of major stakeholders before the formation of the commission. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told Rajya Sabha that the government has received suggestions from the union of employee organizations National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) regarding setting the Terms of Reference (ToR) of the Pay Commission.

According to experts, the most benefitted by the 8th Pay Commission will be of Group C employees, whose number is around 90 percent among the central employees. At present, after including defense and other departments, the number of central employees is around 50 lakh.

Rajya Sabha MP had questioned the 8th Pay Commission

On the question of Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, the government clarified that the suggestions regarding the Pay Commission have been kept pending for the time being and inputs are being taken from all the necessary parties. In this regard, opinions have also been sought from the Defense Ministry, Home Ministry, Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) and state governments.

Let us tell you that NC-JCM represents a large section of central employees, which conveys the employees’ views to the government on salary, allowances, pension and other service conditions. Before the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, they have given detailed suggestions keeping in mind the scope of the commission, timeline and the needs of pensioners.

Work on 8th Pay Commission gained momentum

According to RK Nigam, General Secretary of Joint Employees Council, it is clear from the response of the Central Government that the work on the 8th Pay Commission has gained momentum. The government has also made it clear that all the major stakeholders will be included in this process, so that no section feels left out.

After this response from the Finance Ministry, lakhs of central employees and pensioners are hopeful that in the coming months, the government can announce the members of the Pay Commission and ToR, due to which the increment in salary will be implemented soon.
