Honda Shine EV: Honda is ready to make another push in India’s electric two-wheeler segment. A new electric bike may make an entry soon, and it’s expected to be derived from one of the country’s highest-selling models. The Japanese company recently filed a design patent that teases out the next move in its electric adventure.

Design Revealed in Patent Filing

Honda has submitted a design patent for a future electric motorcycle. The photo shows the frame to be similar to the Shine 100, so it is possible that the electric variant will inherit its low-cost and lightweight frame. In place of a petrol engine, the patent indicates where an electric motor will be mounted, maintaining the streamlined and minimalist design.

This would potentially make Honda Shine the first Indian motorcycle to both have petrol and electric variants of the same vehicle. With millions of Shine units already on the road, Honda appears poised to take a familiar brand into the EV arena.

Affordable and Suitable for Day-to-Day Use

Reports suggest that this upcoming electric bike will be one of the most affordable in its category. Honda may launch it with a swappable battery pack, similar to its electric Activa, making charging and long-distance use more convenient.

By using an already proven chassis and skipping a complete redesign, the brand could launch this electric motorcycle faster and at a lower cost, appealing directly to budget-conscious Indian riders.

Who Will This Bike Rival?

Today, India’s market for electric two-wheelers is scooters-dominated. Ola Electric, Ather, TVS, Bajaj, and Hero MotoCorp are dominating the segment. Though some have begun shifting their focus to electric bikes, few brands have a solid presence so far.

Ola has already come out with its Roadster electric bike, and it is delivering. But if Honda enters with a Shine-based model, it can upset the competition since Shine already enjoys the confidence and popularity in India.

Expected Launch Timeline

While Honda has not officially announced anything yet, reports are indicating that the electric Shine will launch sometime in 2026. As it will be developed on the current Shine 100 platform, time might not be as long.
