Auto Fare Hike- If you are travelling by Auto in daily basis, then this article is for you. The Karnataka government has decided to increase the minimum fare of auto rickshaws. According to the new order of the Transport Department, the increased fare will come into effect from August 1, 2025.
What will be the new fare?
The fare for the first 2 km will now be Rs 36. After this, Rs 18 will have to be paid for every additional kilometer. Earlier, the initial fare was Rs 30 and Rs 15 was charged per kilometer. This new fare will be applicable only within the BBMP limits. That is, it will affect passengers coming within the municipal limits of Bengaluru city.
Meter re-verification is necessary
Under the new order, it will be mandatory for all auto rickshaw drivers to get their meters re-verified and stamped by 31 October 2025. Along with this, it will also be necessary to clearly display the increased fare on the meter display.
Many auto drivers in Bangalore still negotiate fares with passengers verbally, not by meter. In some cases, fast-tick meters are used, in which the meter runs fast and shows a fare much higher than the actual distance.
Auto apps are also increasing people’s problems
On one hand, the arbitrariness of manual auto rickshaw drivers in Bengaluru is not stopping, on the other hand, passengers booking through auto aggregator apps like Ola, Uber are also now facing hefty congestion fees, surge prices and strange charges.
Demand for government control
Passengers say that when the government regulates the minimum fare of autos, why are app-based companies given exemption? The demand for implementing a permanent tariff policy on these companies and increasing fare transparency is now growing.
