Revolutionary Dual-Lens Telephoto Camera Steals the Show
The highlight of the Pura 80 Ultra’s camera system is its world’s world-first switchable telephoto lens design. The back camera configuration comprises a behemoth 50MP 1-inch RYYB primary sensor with a variable f/1.6 to f/4.0 aperture, a 40MP ultrawide camera, and an innovative 1.5MP spectral sensor to further bolster color capture. But the icing on the cake is, of course, the 50MP 1/1.28-inch periscope telephoto lens. It employs a motorized system to transition from 3.7x (83mm) to 9.4x (212mm) optical zoom, something no smartphone has ever done before. Previous flagships such as the Galaxy S23 Ultra boasted 10x zoom, but the sensor size on the Huawei is much larger, with higher image quality promised.
Premium Design with Stunning Display
The Pura 80 Ultra isn’t concerned with photography alone, it’s also taken premium design and build quality to heart. The phone has a mirror-polished aluminum frame and second-generation Kunlun Glass on the front and back for added strength. The phone has a 6.8-inch LTPO OLED screen that’s 2848×1276 resolution and 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. Remarkably, the screen reaches 3000 nits of brightness, making the screen one of the brightest to ever be found on a phone to date.
Powerful Hardware and Superfast Charging
Under the hood, the device is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 9020 chipset, which is said to offer flagship-grade performance. It is paired with 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of internal storage, making it ready for heavy multitasking and media storage. The phone houses a 5,170mAh battery globally (5,700mAh in China) and supports 100W wired and 80W wireless charging, promising ultra-fast power top-ups.
Global Version Lacks Some Connectivity
One of the biggest negatives for global users is not having 5G and satellite connectivity. Although the Chinese version comes with HarmonyOS 5.1 that provides 5G and satellite messaging, the global variant uses Android-based EMUI 15 and is limited to 4G connectivity only. This might be a disappointment for users who are looking to use full flagship-level features.
Price and Availability
The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra comes in stylish Black and Gold color schemes. In China, it begins at ¥9,999 (or about $1,400). International pricing and availability haven’t been announced yet officially, but Huawei should make more announcements soon through its global channels.
