Why Fog Develops on Car Windows
Fog on car windows develops when there is a temperature difference between the inside and outside of the vehicle. Condensation occurs on the glass when the cabin air is moist and warmer or cooler than the external environment. Such fog compromises visibility and results in hazardous road conditions.
Apply the Defogger Correctly
If your vehicle has a defogger function, activate it at once. It is effective for the rear windscreen. For the front windscreen, flip your AC to the front defogger mode and slightly increase the fan speed. This will help drive out the wet air and clear the fog immediately.
Turn Off Recirculation Mode
When it’s monsoon outside, individuals tend to have their AC running on recirculation mode, which retains moisture within. This creates more fog on the glass. Switch this mode off so that there’s fresh air intake and the damp air is expelled. This little adjustment can make your windows fog-free and your drive secure.
Clean the Glass Regularly
Dust or oil on the windows makes it easier for fog to form. Make it a habit to clean your car windows at least once a week using a good glass cleaner or plain water. Clean glass not only reduces fogging but also improves visibility, especially during night drives.
Maintain the Right AC Temperature
One of the most prominent reasons for monsoon fog is cabin and outside temperature difference. Do not let the AC temperature go out of control to prevent fog. You can find the outside temperature by using your car’s MID screen or weather app.

Leave the AC of the car 2 degrees below the outdoor temperature. Take the example of 22°C outside and keep your AC at 20°C. This maintains comfort in the cabin and doesn’t allow fog to form on the windows.
Crack Open the Window Slightly
If the fog continues to come on and nothing seems to work, slightly open your window. This equalizes inside and outside temperatures and humidity levels, which will drive off the fog very fast. A small opening is all that is needed to greatly improve visibility.
