Bharat Bandh July 9:- A call for ‘Bharat Bandh’ was given across the country on Wednesday, July 9, in which more than 25 crore employees of essential sectors like banking, coal mining, postal, insurance and transport are going to participate. On July 9, the grand alliance of opposition parties in Bihar has also called for a chakka jam. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will also participate in the chakka jam. However, schools, colleges and private offices will remain open.
What will remain closed during Bharat Bandh?
Banks and Insurance: Employees of public sector banks and insurance companies will be on strike on July 9. Check clearance may be affected due to the strike. Bank unions have not separately confirmed the disruption of services, but strike organizers say that employees of public sector and cooperative banks are going to participate.
Share Market and Bullion Market: Both share and bullion markets will remain open on July 9.
Coal Mining and Factories: Work may remain stalled in Coal India and other public enterprises.
Government transport: Bus and taxi services may be affected in many states, but private vehicles will continue to run.
Railways: Railway unions have not called for a formal strike, but local trains are likely to be affected by protests in some areas.
Demands and complaints from the government
The government has not been holding an annual labour conference for the last 10 years.
Issues such as continuous job reductions, rapidly increasing inflation, and falling wages are on the rise.
What are the demands of the unions
The four labour codes must be withdrawn.
The privatisation of public sector enterprises should be halted.
The minimum wage should be ₹ 26,000 per month.
The Old Pension Scheme (OPS) should be restored.
The Employment Guarantee Scheme should be expanded in rural and urban areas.
