Tata Scarlet: Tata Motors is all set to disrupt the compact SUV segment again. With its snazzy new design and clever strategy, this new SUV is already creating a buzz. From distinctive appearance to tech that will be ahead of times, it’s likely to leave a lasting impression on consumers.

Tata Scarlet

Tata Motors has been developing a new compact SUV codename Scarlet, which will compete head-on with the Mahindra Bolero. While its curvy Nexon sibling, Scarlet will have a boxy, upright face inspired by Tata Sierra, which is upcoming. This fresh design language will make it distinct in the emerging SUV market.

Design Inspired by Tata Sierra

Scarlet will borrow design language from the highly awaited Tata Sierra, which comes with a neat, sharp and straight-edge look. This gives Scarlet a bold and more raw — quite a different look compared to smoother designs of other Tata SUVs such as Nexon.

All-Electric Variant on the Way

One of the most intriguing news is the potential for the Scarlet to have an all-electric variant. Tata can fit the electric variant with motors at both the axles, supporting an AWD (All-Wheel Drive) configuration. If that is the case, then Scarlet will be a capable and practical electric SUV for Indian roads.

Likely Price Range

Though official prices are yet to be revealed, Scarlet should overlap with the existing Nexon price segment. The ICE variants may range from ₹8 lakh to ₹15.6 lakh, while the EV model might be between ₹12.49 lakh and ₹17.19 lakh (ex-showroom). That places Scarlet squarely in the sweet spot for buyers of compact SUVs.

Tata’s Expanding EV Strategy

Scarlet is a part of Tata’s overall EV strategy to provide two EV choices in every segment—entry, mid-size, and premium. Besides Scarlet, Tata is also gearing up for two additional sub-4-meter electric SUVs codenamed Kuno and Terra. Those launches will help Tata’s EV portfolio in the next few years.

Tata Sierra Launch Also Confirmed

Although Scarlet is still a few months out, Tata Motors has officially announced the release of the highly anticipated Tata Sierra. It will arrive in both ICE and electric trims during this calendar year. The news was revealed during the Harrier.ev unveil by Tata Passenger Electric Mobility’s Chief Commercial Officer Vivek Srivastava.
