Punjab News: To bring transparency in the ration distribution system, the government has done e-KYC. Till June 30, 2025, people have done e-KYC in large numbers. Do you know that e-KYC has exposed the ineligible? Under the Smart Ration Card Scheme in Punjab, there were a large number of people who were taking the rights of the eligible. The Punjab government has released the list of people who have not done e-KYC.

Under this scheme, a total of 1.59 crore people in Punjab were taking advantage of the facility of free food grains. On getting e-KYC done, only 1.27 people have been found eligible. In such a situation, about 31.39 lakh people have been shown the way out of the Smart Ration Card Scheme. It is clear that now the families who have done e-KYC will not be able to get the benefit of the free ration facility. This is considered a big setback for these people. Earlier, the time given for getting e-KYC was till 31st March, which was extended to 30th June.

E-KYC had to be done by this date

According to the rules of the government, ration card holders had to get e-KYC done by 30th June 2025 at any cost. Apart from the biometrics of the ration card, it is also necessary to link the ration card with Aadhaar. Its main objective was to weed out ineligible members. According to the latest report, 31.39 lakh members have not got e-KYC done.

This decision is going to have the greatest impact on the districts of Majha and Doaba region. People who have not got e-KYC done will no longer be able to get ration cards. The Punjab government wants to provide the benefit of ration only to the eligible so that no one’s right is lost.

Know where how many people are not getting the benefit?

Talking about Amritsar in Punjab, 3.68 lakh people are not getting the benefit of ration cards. 3.31 lakh members of Ludhiana, 2.62 lakh of Gurdaspur, 2.60 lakh of Jalandhar, 1.87 lakh of Tarn Taran, 1.80 lakh of Hoshiarpur and 1.60 lakh of Patiala are not getting free ration after July 1.

According to the department, among those who have not done e-KYC, many members have died, and there are many families whose members have become migrants abroad. Now these people will be deprived of the facility of ration. Till now, the ration was being taken in the name of these people incorrectly.

According to a senior official, despite giving many chances, 20 per cent of the members in the state have not been able to do e-KYC. These members have not done eKYC yet, they will not get a ration for the July-September quarter. If for some reason these members do e-KYC again, then the benefit can be restored in the quarter after September.
