June turned out to be a tough month for the passenger vehicle market in India as overall car sales saw a decline. Despite this, some carmakers managed to record strong demand for their vehicles. A total of 3,17,757 cars were sold in June, down 6.38% from the 3,39,418 units sold in June 2024.
Maruti Suzuki Maintains the Top Spot
Even Maruti Suzuki, India’s biggest car seller, faced a drop in numbers. The brand sold 1,18,906 cars, which is 13.31% lower than the 1,37,160 units sold last year. Despite this decline, Maruti still held on to the top position on the sales chart thanks to its large range and trusted name.
Mahindra Impresses with SUV Sales
Mahindra had an outstanding month with its SUV models driving growth. It sold 47,306 vehicles in June 2025 compared to 40,022 in June 2024. This means an impressive 18.20% rise. Mahindra’s focus on SUVs helped it leave Tata and Hyundai behind in total sales during the month.
Hyundai Faces a Decline
Hyundai’s sales slipped to 44,024 units, down 12.13% from the 50,103 cars sold in June 2024. Tata Motors also saw a dip, selling 37,083 cars in June 2025, a 14.80% fall from 43,527 last year. These drops show how tough the market was even for popular car brands.
MG and Toyota Show Positive Growth
Toyota performed well, selling 26,453 cars in June 2025, a 2.72% increase compared to 25,752 units in June 2024. MG Motor did even better, with sales jumping 25.52% to 5,829 cars from 4,644 last year. This rise shows that buyers are responding well to new models and features offered by these brands.
Skoda Doubles Its Sales
Skoda had one of the best results, selling 5,014 units in June 2025 against 2,566 last year, marking a massive 95.40% growth. The brand’s aggressive marketing and fresh product lineup likely helped pull in new customers.
Mixed Results for Other Brands
Honda sold 4,618 cars, down 3.87% from last year. Volkswagen sold 3,089 cars, 5.25% lower than 3,260 last year. Kia India saw a mild 3.17% drop, selling 20,625 units compared to 21,300 last year.
Citroen and Renault Show Opposite Trends
Renault’s sales fell sharply to 2,625 cars in June 2025, a big 26.12% drop from 3,553 last year. Nissan also reported lower sales, with just 1,313 cars sold, down 37.68% from 2,107 last year. On the other hand, Citroen bounced back strongly with sales up 79.94% to 610 units compared to 339 units a year ago. Jeep India saw a mild drop to 262 cars from 281, marking a 6.76% fall.
