Motorola G85 5G: In the year 2024, Motorola launched a powerful smartphone in the month of July – Motorola G85 5G. Its first sale started on July 16 and now, by June 2025, this phone has completed almost a year in the market. In such a long time, this phone has earned a lot of name in the mid-range segment. If you are looking for a stylish and feature-loaded phone in the budget of ₹ 15,000 to ₹ 20,000, then this review is for you.

In this article, we are going to tell the whole story of Motorola G85 5G – design, display, camera, battery, performance, and software, that too in a very desi style and in easy language, so that you do not have any problem in understanding.

Design and build quality: Looks completely first class

If anything has made this phone everyone’s favorite, then it is its look and design. The Motorola G85 5G is very thin – just 7.59mm – and weighs very light too – just 172g. When you hold it in your hand, it will feel like holding a premium phone. It has a 3D curved pOLED display, which is curved from both sides and looks very stylish.

You get many color options in the phone – vegan leather finish colors like Cobalt Blue, Olive Green, Viva Magenta, and an Urban Grey which comes in PMMA material. Yes, some people may say that this vegan leather does not give a very premium feel, like it comes in the Edge series, but still it looks great at this price.

IP52 rating has also been given, which means there is no need to be afraid of light dust and water splashes, but it may be a bit limited for those with more rough use.

Display: What gives pleasure to the eyes

One of the most special features of the Motorola G85 5G is its display. It has a 6.67-inch Full HD+ pOLED Endless Edge display which comes with a 120Hz refresh rate. This means smooth scrolling, bright colors and deep blacks.

With a brightness of 1600 nits, the screen looks very clear even in sunlight. This doubles the fun of playing games or watching videos. The 360Hz touch sampling rate makes the responsiveness even faster. There is also the protection of Gorilla Glass 5.

Some people do not like the curved display as much because there is a slight fear of accidental touch, but most users have praised its looks and picture quality.

Performance: Better than workable

This phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 processor, which is actually a slightly upgraded name of Snapdragon 695. The Moto G84 also had the same chip.

Everyday tasks like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, calls and browsing are no big deal for it. The UI runs very smooth and the full benefit of 120Hz refresh rate is available.

Talking about gaming, light games run easily in it, but to play heavy games like Genshin Impact or Call of Duty, the graphics will have to be reduced a bit.

The phone comes in two variants – 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. It also has a RAM Boost feature which gives virtual RAM. The storage is UFS 2.2 and can be expanded up to 1TB with a microSD card.

Camera quality: Photos are great

The Motorola G85 5G has a 50MP primary camera on the rear side which comes with Sony’s LYT-600 sensor and also has OIS i.e. optical image stabilization. It also has an 8MP ultrawide camera which also works as a macro camera.

The camera performs very well in daylight. The photos are detailed, the colors are good and there is no shake due to OIS. Decent results are also obtained in low light, although in very dark the detail may be reduced a bit.

A 32MP camera has been provided for selfies which takes good photos in good lighting.

Now talking about the video, there is a slight lack here – because video recording is limited to only 1080p. Some sources also say that videos can also be recorded at 60fps from the rear camera, but there is no 4K support, which may seem a bit lacking in today’s time.

Battery and charging: Daylong support is sure

Motorola G85 5G has a 5000mAh battery which easily lasts a day. If you are a moderate user, then after charging once, the phone runs tension-free till night.

Talking about charging, it has 33W TurboPower fast charging. It reaches 0 to 50% in about 37 minutes and takes up to 90 minutes for a full charge.

Some competitor brands are offering 45W or 67W charging in this segment, but Motorola’s system is balanced – no excessive heating and battery health is also maintained.

Software and UI: A very clean Android experience

The software experience of the Motorola G85 5G is also a big plus point. It gets Hello UI which is based on Android 14. It is very clean, without any nonsense background.

Moto Gestures like “Chop on the torch”, “Twist on the camera” – these small features are very much liked by the users.

Motorola promises two years of Android updates and four years of security updates, which is considered good in this price range.

Some early users had talked about minor bugs in the software, but Motorola has been fixing them by giving updates from time to time.

Motorola G85 5G price and where to get it

When this phone was launched, its price was kept in two variants. The version with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage was priced at ₹17,999 and the version with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage was priced at ₹19,999. But with time the prices have changed a bit.
