Honda Rebel 500: A new player has moved onto Indian roads, shaking up the cruiser market with poise, power, and statement presence. Armed with a formidable history behind it, this new machine is set to topple a sweetheart of cruiser enthusiasts. Now on sale in major cities, this is where the journey starts.
Price and Rivalry
The Honda Rebel 500 comes to the Indian market at an ex-showroom of Rs.5.12 lakh. As far as competition is concerned, its arch-nemesis is the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, a motorcycle that has already left an impression among Indian cruiser riders. Honda’s entry seeks to shake this up with an out-of-the-box proposition.
Performance
A 471cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine is at the core of the Rebel 500. It produces 46bhp at 8,500rpm and 43.3Nm torque at 6,000rpm and promises a dynamic and responsive ride. With a 6-speed gearbox, the engine provides smooth transmission and a thrilling ride for both urban roads and highways.
Design and Features
Honda has opted for an all-black color scheme for the Rebel 500, and it exudes a premium and aggressive look. The motorcycle comes in a sole color—Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic. It features 16-inch alloy wheels and comes with a telescopic front fork and Showa twin shock absorbers at the back for comfortable and stable riding.
The Rebel 500 features a digital LCD instrument panel that presents all vital information in a clear manner. Safety features include dual-channel ABS and disc brakes—296mm front and 240mm rear. These combine to provide solid braking across any road conditions.
Lightweight But Cruiser-Oriented
Tipically weighing a mere 191kg (kerb), the Rebel 500 is one of the lightest in its class. This enhances its handling and maneuverability, particularly for shorter or new riders. The seat height is a mere 690mm, making it one of the lowest and most accessible to the majority of riders. The ground clearance is a mere 125mm, and with an 11.2-litre fuel tank, long-distance touring might mean more frequent refueling stops.
