Mahindra Bolero:Mahindra is preparing to roll out a next-generation Bolero that will transition away from its traditional rugged persona. Although the formal launch remains under wraps, recent spy sightings and internal affirmations suggest a much more contemporary and premium SUV. Not revealing too much, Mahindra has indicated that this is not a mere cosmetic refresh.
Exterior Upgrades
Spy photographs indicate the new Bolero will have a more sophisticated look. Its front fascia will see a dramatic change with round projector headlamps and an redesigned grille with a multi-slat design. LED DRLs are shifted down on the bumper, further increasing its road presence. Side profiles reveal flush-fit door handles—a clear indication of Mahindra’s intention to go sophisticated. Adorning these are new design multi-spoke alloy wheels and chiseled black cladding, sealing the SUV’s aggressive new look.
Platform and Build
The new-generation Bolero is expected to be constructed using the NFA (New Flexible Architecture) platform, which will also form the basis of future Mahindra SUVs. This will not only enhance the dynamics and safety of the SUV but also enable the incorporation of more sophisticated features. The sturdier and more flexible platform may put it on par with monocoque midsize SUVs available in the market.
Interior and Features
The largest change will be in the cabin. The new Bolero will leave its utilitarian heritage behind for a premium cabin layout. Among the features that can be expected are a first-in-class panoramic sunroof. Carried-over features from Scorpio N and XUV700 are also anticipated, such as a semi-digital instrument panel, automatic air conditioning, and a multifunction steering wheel.
Powertrain Options
Presently, Bolero is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces approximately 99 bhp with a manual transmission. But the new model can take advantage of an upgraded 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine—used in the Thar and XUV 3XO already. With increased power and torque output, this would enhance performance and economy as well as make it suitable for daily as well as long-distance usage.
Market Launch
Mahindra has announced that a new platform will be revealed around Independence Day, possibly paving the way for the Bolero launch. While the launch date is yet to be confirmed, August seems to be a likely contender.
