Maruti Car Fall 44 Percent: Maruti Suzuki Celerio, which was one of the leading contenders in the hatchback segment in India, took a big hit. In May 2025, the vehicle logged sales of only 1,861 units and ranked tenth in the market. This is a 44% drop compared to last year, and many are questioning its popularity among price-sensitive buyers.
Current Price Range and Variants
The Celerio remains among the cheapest in its segment, priced from Rs.5.64 lakh. The range-topping variant costs Rs.7.37 lakh. Even so, the competitive pricing of the car doesn’t appear to be sufficient to entice more customers in a competitive market.
Engine and Powertrain Options
Celerio gets a 1.0-litre petrol motor which produces 67bhp of peak power and 89Nm of peak torque. For someone seeking improved fuel efficiency, there is also a CNG option on offer. Its variant generates 56.7bhp power and 82Nm torque, and hence it is a fuel-economic car for driving in the city.
Interior Features and Technology
Maruti equips the Celerio with a 7-inch SmartPlay Studio touchscreen system, making in-car entertainment and connectivity more enjoyable. This is in tune with the competition from newer hatchbacks in the segment. It ensures that, even at the budget level, customers do not forego digital amenities.
Safety and Color Options
When it comes to safety, the Celerio does not lag behind. It comes with 6 airbags as standard and a 12-point safety package, providing minimum protection for passengers. The vehicle also comes in six bright colors, providing customers with greater choice to customize their vehicle.
Reasons Behind the Sales Drop
Albeit its specifications and price, Celerio’s falling sales owe to many reasons. Increasing competition from new models with improved design and stronger engines might be taking its toll. Plus, vehicles such as the Maruti Swift that sold more than 14,000 units in the month of May seem to have secured greater customer preference.
