Vivo X Fold 5: Vivo has officially teased its future-gen foldable flagship, Vivo X Fold 5, in a sequence of in-the-wild shots shared by product manager Han Boxiao. In his tease, he mentioned that the X Fold 5 would be lighter and thinner than the Vivo X Fold 3 from last year, which weighed 219 grams. The focus here is on rewriting portability on foldable phones, boasting of breaking a new thinness and lightness record.
Thickness Compared to iPhone 16 Pro Max
The recently released images contrast the Vivo X Fold 5 with the iPhone 16 Pro Max placed side by side. As folded, the X Fold 5 is barely thicker than the iPhone, which measures 8.25mm. News reports state that Vivo’s foldable’s folded thickness is supposed to be around 9.33mm, but its unfolded thickness may be a staggering 4.3mm, one of the thinnest folding phones in history.
Ultra-Lightweight Design with Triple Protection
Scales just 209 grams, Vivo X Fold 5 could be the lightest large-format foldable ever. Vivo also promises triple protection with the phone, a first in its class. While details have not officially been announced yet, this likely includes water, dust, and drop resistance, complementing its durability credentials for use in everyday life.
Premium Display and Performance Features
Rumored reports suggest that the X Fold 5 will feature a 6.53-inch LTPO outer screen and a large 8.03-inch 2K+ AMOLED foldable inner screen. The screens will supposedly support a 120Hz refresh rate, offering seamless performance both for watching media and multitasking. Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, supported by 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, ideal for heavy consumers.
Battery and Camera Capabilities
To be clear of its flagship smartphone standing, the phone is said to have a 6,000mAh battery that charges quickly via 90W cable charging or 30W wireless charging. Camera features match the high-end standards too, including dual 32MP front-facing cameras (one on each screen) and a rear triple-lens Zeiss-tuned camera setup. This includes a 50MP Sony IMX921 primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 50MP periscope sensor with 3x optical zoom.
Anticipated Release Schedule
The Vivo X Fold 5 will launch sometime later this month in China. With its slender build, light weight, and high-end features, the foldable is shaping up to be a serious contender in the premium smartphone space.
