The competition in the SUV segment has now become even more interesting. Kia has recently introduced its new 3-row SUV Carens Clavis, which seems to be directly challenging Hyundai’s Alcazar. Just like Hyundai has introduced Creta and Alcazar for two different buyer segments, Kia is also now targeting the 2-row and 3-row segments through Carens and Carens Clavis.

Features

Talking about both the SUVs, both the vehicles offer quite a few things in the top variants. These include premium features like dual-zone climate control, dual digital screens, wireless phone mirroring, LED light package, connected car technology, and 360-degree camera with level-2 ADAS.

The rear seat comfort is also good in both cars. The six-seater layout has seat back tray tables and left rear boss function in both. However, in Alcazar this function is controlled by electronic buttons, while in Carens Clavis it has to be adjusted manually.

The second-row of the Alcazar gets ventilated seats and under-thigh support, which is not offered in the Clavis. Apart from this, most variants of the Alcazar have a 6-seater option, while in the Clavis it is limited to only the top-spec variants.

Design

While the Kia Carens Clavis has a longer wheelbase, the Hyundai Alcazar has a longer overall length. This may provide slightly better leg space in the Clavis, while the Alcazar will have more overall cabin space.

Safety features like 6 airbags, ABS + EBD, electronic stability program and ISOFIX child seat mount have been provided as standard in both the cars.

Engine and performance

Both SUVs get the Hyundai-Kia Group’s 1.5-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines with the option of manual and automatic gearboxes. But the Carens Clavis has a special advantage—it also gets a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in the entry-level variant, which comes only with a manual transmission.
