Rajasthan Royals batter Riyan Parag was seen arguing with the on-field umpire during the 32nd match of IPL 2025 on Wednesday. When Parag came to the crease, his bat did not pass the gauge test.

Because of this, Parag had to change his bat. But before doing so, he argued with the umpire on the field and protested the decision. However, he had no other option and was forced to change his bat before taking the crease.

A video of Parag’s angry reaction went viral on social media, where he looked unhappy with the umpire’s decision. When the umpire tested Parag’s bat, the RR batsman disagreed.

However, Parag did not feel comfortable playing with the new bat and was dismissed after scoring only 8 runs.

Riyan Parag Joins the List of Players Who Failed the Bat Test

Riyan Parag has become the third batsman this season who had to change his bat after failing the gauge test. Earlier, KKR’s Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje also faced the same situation and had to replace their bats.

Strict Bat Size Rules in IPL 2025

As per IPL 2025 rules, the bat’s size must follow fixed dimensions. The maximum width allowed is 10.79 cm, the thickness should not be more than 6.7 cm, and the edge must not exceed 4 cm. The total length of the bat should be within 96.4 cm.

This season, players and franchises have been warned that any change in equipment will not be allowed.

Why Are Umpires Checking Bats During Matches?

Umpires are checking bats as part of the BCCI’s protocol. This rule has been introduced to stop players from gaining any unfair advantage. BCCI has given the power to match officials to inspect any bat during live matches. This rule is a new addition compared to last season.

What Are the Rules for Bat Size?

The ICC has set clear rules for the size of bats. According to these guidelines:

  • The width of the bat should not exceed 4.25 inches (10.79 cm).
  • The thickness of the middle should not go beyond 2.64 inches (6.7 cm).
  • The edge should not be more than 1.56 inches (4 cm).
  • The total length of the bat must be within 38 inches (96.4 cm).
