Why are the prices of medicines increasing

According to NPPA, this increase in the prices of medicines is being done due to **inflation-based price revision**. Every year the government makes a revision to control the prices of essential medicines. This time due to the increase in the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), pharmaceutical companies have been allowed to increase their prices.

Prices of which medicines will increase

The prices of medicines which are included in the National Essential Medicines List (NLEM) will increase. This includes medicines for serious diseases like antibiotics, painkillers, heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure and cancer.

This decision of the government will increase the monthly expenses of those who need medicines regularly. Difficulties for the elderly and sick people.
