Indian Wrestling Federation Suspension Revoked: There is good news for wrestlers across the country. The Sports Ministry has withdrawn the suspension of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The federation’s status as NSF has been restored.
The Sports Ministry lifted the suspension on Tuesday, paving the way for selection of national teams for domestic and international tournaments. Let us inform you that the Sports Ministry had suspended the WFI on 24 December 2023, upset with the hasty announcement of the Under-15 (U-15) and Under-20 (U-20) National Championships, but now it has been reinstated.

The government got angry and suspended him

According to media reports, the Sanjay Singh-led panel had won the elections on December 21, 2023, but the WFI was suspended after the government was upset over the decision to make Nandini Nagar in Gonda, the stronghold of former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the venue for the national championship. Now the ministry has said in its order that WFI has improved its working and system, hence it has been decided to lift the suspension. This will be a big benefit for the wrestlers. While senior wrestlers will be able to give trials for international tournaments, junior wrestlers will be able to give trials to play at the state level.

This is how Sanjay Singh became the chief

Let us tell you that the former chief of the federation Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was accused of sexually exploiting 7 female wrestlers. A protest was held at Jantar Mantar for the arrest of the accused. The entire country and the world saw the uproar that took place during this time. That incident was condemned across the country and the world. There was a demand to remove Brij Bhushan from his post. A petition was filed in the High Court to cancel the elections of the federation held in December 2023 and declare the new appointments illegal. After this, elections were held again on 21 December 2023 and Brij Bhushan’s associate Sanjay Singh was made the chief.
