The month of February 2025 brought mixed results in the Indian car market. Maruti Suzuki registered marginal growth, while Hyundai and Tata Motors saw a decline in sales. At the same time, companies like Mahindra, Toyota and Kia showed tremendous growth. In this report, we will analyze the sales figures of major automobile companies in February 2025.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) recorded sales of 1,60,791 units in February 2025, slightly higher than 1,60,271 units last year. However, sales of its mini car segment (Alto, S-Presso) declined to 10,226 units, while this figure was 14,782 units in the same month last year. But the compact car segment (Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, WagonR) saw marginal growth. Sales of this segment increased from 71,627 units to 72,942 units.

Apart from this, sales of the SUV segment (Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Jimny) also increased to 65,033 units from 61,234 units in the same period last year.

Decline in sales of Hyundai and Tata Motors

Hyundai Motor India sold 47,727 units in February 2025 as against 50,201 units sold in February last year. This shows a decline of 5%. Hyundai CEO Tarun Garg believes that economic reforms and the tax reforms proposed in Budget 2025 can bring new energy to the market. The situation of Tata Motors was also not very good. Its total passenger vehicle (PV) sales stood at 46,435 units, down 9% from 51,267 units last year.

Mahindra, Toyota and Kia showed strong growth

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) registered a growth of 19% in the SUV segment and sold a total of 50,420 units. 42,401 units were sold in the same month last year. According to Vijay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M, customer interest in the SUV segment remains intact, due to which sales are increasing continuously.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) also registered a growth of 13%. It sold 28,414 units in February 2025, up from 25,220 units last year. Toyota Vice President Varinder Wadhwa said that there is strong demand for cars like Innova Crysta, Hyder, Fortuner in the SUV and MPV segment.

Kia India’s sales have also jumped tremendously. It sold 25,026 units, up 23.8% from 20,200 units last year. According to Kia’s Sales and Marketing Head Hardeep Singh Brar, strong customer demand and the company’s cutting-edge technology are the main reasons for this. Apart from this, JSW MG Motor India also registered a growth of 16.3% and sold 4,956 units in February 2025, while in the same month last year this figure was 4,261 units.
