8th Pay Commission: New Fitment Factor in 90 Days? Check Here

8th Pay Commission: The Eighth Pay Commission, constituted for central employees, is continuing its meetings. The next meeting is scheduled to be held in Mumbai. Ahead of this meeting, an important proposal has been presented to the Pay Commission. This proposal calls for the creation of a permanent pay review body. According to the proposal, this body must have the authority to suggest a new fitment factor under certain circumstances. Let’s explore this demand in detail and how it will affect central employees.

Fresh Fitment Factor Coming in 90 Days

The Federation of National Postal Organizations (FNPO) has put forward a proposal suggesting that dearness allowance (DA) or dearness relief (DR) should get rolled into basic salary or pension once it hits 25 percent. On top of that, they’re calling for a permanent pay review body to be set up. This body would have the job of suggesting a new fitment factor for pay adjustments within 90 days whenever DA or DR climbs to 50 percent.

In the same vein, the Bharat Pensioners Samaj is pushing for DR to be added to basic pension if it goes over 25%. They’ve also thrown out a fitment factor of 3.83 as their suggestion. The whole point behind these asks is to keep inflation from eating away at what employees and retirees can actually buy with their salaries and pensions, plus to cut down on having to sit around waiting for the next Pay Commission to make changes. That said, these are just what the organizations are asking for right now—the government hasn’t given the green light yet.

Mumbai’s Hosting the Next Big Meeting

The Eighth Pay Commission is set to have some serious talks in Mumbai on October 22nd and 23rd. Lots of major requests are expected to come up at this gathering, which happens right after Dussehra. Just so you know, over the last 11 months since the 8th Pay Commission got going on November 3rd, 2025, the group has already met up in several spots around India—Delhi, Ladakh, West Bengal, and Puducherry included.

At those earlier meetings, a bunch of unions and groups have voiced their worries about prices going up. They’ve been pushing the 8th Pay Commission to take these concerns seriously so they can boost how well central government workers and retirees are doing. Still, word is that the Pay Commission will hand over its suggestions to the government sometime in the first half of next year. After that, it’ll be up to the government to decide whether to put those suggestions into action.
