8th Pay Commission has extended the deadline, All Eye on July 31

8th Pay Commission: Big news for central government employees. The 8th Pay Commission has decided to extend the deadline for submitting crucial employee data on the portal from June 30th to July 31, 2026. This extension was necessary as many stakeholders had not provided the required information within the initial timeframe.

Reasons for the deadline extension

– Various ministries, departments, and union territories failed to meet the initial deadline for data submission.

– The 8th Finance Commission will only accept data submissions through the online portal, not in hard copy or via email.

Instructions from the Pay Commission

– Nodal officers have been instructed to ensure data submission within the extended deadline.

– Data submitted through physical copies, email, Excel sheets, or PDF files will not be considered valid; only submissions through the online portal are acceptable.

Requested data by the Commission includes

1. Capacity assessment

2. Vacancy details

3. Information on retirements and VRS between 2023-2025

4. Resignation trends from 2023-2025

5. Employee demographics

6. GPF data

7. Promotion-related information

Significance of the data

– Provides insights into changes in employee-related matters and helps the 8th Pay Commission understand employee requirements better. Scheduled meetings of the 8th Pay Commission in Bhubaneswar and Kolkata, following previous meetings in Delhi, Lucknow, and Jammu and Kashmir. Continuously engaging with pensioners and employee organizations to gather feedback and address their needs. Formed in November 2025, the Commission has 18 months to submit its report, with recommendations set to be implemented from January 1, 2026, resulting in arrears for central government employees.

What is written in the letter?

The letter issued by the Deputy Secretary clearly states that the deadline for data submission has been extended to July 31, 2026. The letter also states that all departments and ministries should submit data only through the collection portal; data sent to the Pay Commission via PDF, email, physical copy, or any other means will not be accepted.

What did Dr. Manjeet Patel say?

Dr. Manjeet Patel, National President of All India NPS Employees, also shared this letter on social media, writing that it is not easy for the Commission to repeatedly extend the deadline for submitting data. He further wrote that it is now the responsibility of all ministries, departments, Union Territories, and central autonomous bodies to provide the necessary data to the Commission as soon as possible, so that the Commission can comprehensively analyze the actual needs of central government employees, pensioners, and other stakeholders across the country and make fair, practical, and visionary recommendations for the next 10 years.
